Made of high carbon 5160 steel that has been hand forged and hardened in an oil quench. With a hammered finish, excellent balance and hand feel, this knife has been sharpened at a 17 degree angle and honed to a razor’s edge. The handle is made of walnut and leather treated with bees wax and orange oil with mild steel for the bolster and end cap. As 5160 and mild steel are NON STAINLESS this knife will change color and develop a patina over time. It will also require a little extra care after each use which is a simple wash, hand dry and wipe with a food safe wax or oil such as bees wax, mineral oil or olive oil (basically treat it like grandma’s cast iron.) The wood handle wants to be rubbed with bees wax every once in a while and NEVER EVER ran through a dishwasher as this will ruin the handle and likely chip the cutting edge. If cared for properly this knife will last many lifetimes of use.
